What Day Is It?

It’s “Flake Appreciation Day!”

While I do appreciate a corn flake from time to time…

It’s snowflakes we’re talking about here.

Most all snowflakes have six sides.

Why?
Because snowflakes are ice crystals, and because ice is water, they can only fit together in certain ways. Humidity and temperature dictate the shape of the pattern but each snow crystal has a six-cornered symmetry which follows a water molecules makeup.

What makes snowflakes white?

Snowflakes may look white as they fall, or as they accumulate on the ground, but they are totally clear. The ice is not transparent like glass, it’s translucent, meaning that light passes through it but not directly. The many sides of the crystals cause diffuse reflection of the whole light spectrum which results in the snowflakes white appearance.

What makes snow yellow?
(Sorry, couldn’t resist!)

Have a Magnificent Monday!
