What Day Is It?

It’s “National Oysters Rockefeller Day!”

Oysters Rockefeller is oysters on the half-shell that are topped with a rich sauce of butter, parsley, other green herbs and bread crumbs, then baked or broiled and garnished with lemon wedges.

Created in 1899 at the New Orleans restaurant Antoine’s by Jules Alciatore, son of founder Antoine Alciatore, due to a shortage of escargot.

Oysters Rockefeller was named after John D. Rockefeller, wealthiest American at the time, due to its extreme richness.

It’s a good thing Thomas Crapper (inventor of the toilet) wasn’t the richest man!

Have a Fabulous Wednesday!
